Today’s post comes from Colorado. To be exact it’s Grand Junction, Colorado. Michael Borg sent me a few pictures of some mugs that he has been working on. Let me be the first to say they look amazing. No one can describe their work better than the artist themselves, so here it is.
“Tim
You said to send pics so here is the glue up for the Wenge Mug I’m working on. Thanks for asking. I love showing my work.
I got a box of wood from my brother for Christmas. One of the pieces was a 2x2x24 piece of wenge. I love making beer mugs, steins, and wine glasses. (I don’t drink more than a beer or 2 all year) So I thought I would make a new stein. I decided that I would use Oak for an accent wood. So here are the pics of the glueup and getting it ready for the bottom to be glued on. I also glued up enough oak to make 5 smaller mugs.
You will see the oak and purple heart stein in the pic. I included it so I could show my 17yr old son the size of the new stein. Im trying to help him learn to turn via text messages. He lives in Texas and I live in Colorado.
If you have any questions feel free to call or email me back.
Thank You,
Michael C. Borg

Well Michael I’m glad that you sent me the pictures. The mugs look great. I’m also glad to see that you are working on getting the next generations involved in woodworking as well. Keep up the great work.
